Apple Maps Launches AR Walking Navigation in Tokyo, Japan

by

In 2021, Apple first introduced AR navigation to Apple Maps, a feature similar to Google’s Live View, where users use their smartphone’s camera to scan real places and a series of virtual arrows appear on their phone’s screen to guide them to their target location.

Now, Apple’s AR for walking navigation has begun to be introduced in Tokyo, Japan, where local IOS users can unlock a new way to navigate.

The feature was first spotted by media outlet Alta Distance, which said in an article that the AR walk navigation feature is perfect for some of the new indoor maps that guide users through the maze of intricate, information-dense subway stations in places like Shinjuku, Tokyo and Ikebukuro, the very places where Apple regularly collects and updates map data.
